Make a Lasting Difference
Often a donor’s most generous and thoughtful gesture, planned gifts are charitable contributions that are part of a donor’s financial or estate plans and can have meaning and impact both during and beyond the donor’s lifetime.
Planned gifts allow a donor to:
- leave a legacy
- decide how their gifts are used;
- potentially realize taxable benefit,
- and make a more long-lasting gift than traditional annual giving.
Some planned gift vehicles can provide guaranteed lifetime income and assign residual to an organization of choice.
Please note: In Ohio, your beneficiaries or potential beneficiaries cannot be witnesses to your will. This includes anyone related to you by blood, marriage or adoption.
Witnesses to a will do not need to be informed of details of the will or any of the terms of the bequests.
Once your will is ready for signature, simply acknowledge that the document is your will, sign in front of witnesses, and have witnesses sign in each other's presence.
Planned gifts create a legacy that lives on and can include:
Bequests
The easiest way to make a lasting difference is to remember Trinity Cathedral in your will or estate plan. These gifts to the endowment can perpetually sustain our ministries.
Trinity Cathedral partners with FreeWill, an online tool that guides you through the process of creating your will or trust. It’s easy to use, accessible online, and can be completed in 20 minutes. You can use this resource on its own, or to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with an attorney.
Have you already included Trinity Cathedral in your will or trust? Please fill out this form to let us know! We would love to thank you for your generosity.
Life Income Gifts
These gifts provide you or your designated beneficiary with income for life in exchange for your gift, and can reduce or eliminate certain taxes while providing annual income. Trinity Cathedral welcomes life income gifts from Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and Charitable Lead Trusts. Please consult your tax or financial advisor for benefits and opportunities specific to your circumstances.
Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designations
Make a charitable gift of retirement assets and/or qualified charitable distribution by completing a beneficiary designation form naming Trinity Cathedral as a beneficiary.
Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate us as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.
Life Insurance
Using a life insurance policy to make a charitable gift can be as easy as completing a beneficiary designation form that names Trinity Cathedral as beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of a new or existing policy, or irrevocable owner.

Legacy Circle
Planned Gift donors who inform Trinity Cathedral of their intentions in writing will be invited to join the Legacy Circle.
Circle members are listed in Trinity’s annual report and public donor rolls, receive a certificate of membership and are invited as special guests to an annual event with Trinity leadership.
Your planned gift to Trinity’s endowment will help us:
- equip for faithful living through worship, education, training and leadership development;
- grow our congregation as a people of God, extend the reach of our radical hospitality, and broaden our engagement with the community around us;
- flourish as a ministry hub and diocesan resource for generations to come.
A Legacy of Planned Giving
Your planned gift, along with the intentional generosity of others, allows Trinity to serve the Diocese of Ohio and the people of northeast Ohio as a place of committed community service and outreach, transcendent worship and music, and gracious inclusion.
Planned gifts strengthen a growing endowment fund that is permanently invested, providing a continuous revenue stream to guarantee a strong Cathedral for generations to come and a sacred place for all people.
From its inception as a parish in 1816, Trinity Cathedral has benefited from the support of individuals who thoughtfully anticipated and cared for both its present and future ministries through the opportunities of planned giving.

Through our new partnership with FreeWill, you can now create your legal will—entirely free of charge—in 20 minutes or less. It’s a simple, thoughtful way to:
- Protect your loved ones and assets
- Ensure your wishes are honored
- Reflect on your faith, values, and enduring support for Trinity’s mission
You’ll also have the opportunity to include an optional planned gift to Trinity if you feel called to do so, sustaining our sacred space, community programs, and commitment to the arts for generations to come.
Prayerfully consider making your free will today.

Although FreeWill provides the opportunity to create healthcare directives in general, please know that in Ohio two documents can provide for medical care: a Living Will addresses end-of-life decisions, while a Health Care Power of Attorney handles other medical decisions when an individual is unable to make them themselves.
